Lasers have been used previously in surgery essentially as a knife to cut through tissues. The benefits were presumed to be precision with minimal collateral damage to tissues. In the field of coloproctology, biolitec® has been developing laser technologies to treat haemorrhoids and fistulas.
HeLP® (Hemorrhoid Laser Procedure) – for haemorrhoids
A painless outpatient technique for treating early (2nd degree) haemorrhoids. The HeLP®technique uses a Doppler probe, to identify and treat the branches of the blood vessels inside the back passage that supply the haemorrhoids. This technique is safe and causes minimal pain or discomfort to the patient. Postoperative recovery is faster than alternative approaches, with only a few complications. Anaesthesia or analgesia is generally no longer required which greatly reduces complications, whilst simplifying the procedure and making the treatment safer, faster and completely outpatient with minimal orno pain postoperatively for the patient, showing excellent immediate and long-term results.
LHP® (LaserHemorrhoidoPlasty) – for haemorrhoids
LHP® is used for treating advanced haemorrhoids of 3rd or 4th degree under general anaesthesia. Laser energy is used to shrink the haemorrhoidal tissues similar to varicose vein laser therapy. As the energy of the laser is inserted centrally into the haemorrhoid (pile) there is little or no damage to the lining of the back passage. No foreign materials (clamps) aLHP® is not associated with any risk of stenosis. Healing is excellent because, unlike conventional surgeries, there are no incisions or stitches.
FiLaC® (Fistula-tract Laser Closure) – for anal fistulas and pilonidal sinus disease
FiLaC®removes and destroys the infected fistula tract tissues very precisely. The flexible, radially emitting FiLaC® fibre is positioned exactly by using the pilot beam and applies energy to the pathway of the fistula tract. The efficient radiation concept of the FiLaC® fibre makes optimal use of the laser energy applied. Using minimally invasive laser therapy, the treatment of anal fistulas does not damage the sphincter: Any parts of the muscle are preserved to a maximum, and incontinence is avoided. The newest field of application for FiLaC®is the treatment of pilonidal sinus disease. Here, the laser achieves excellent healing results, minimal wound surfaces and convincing cosmetic results.
